If you’re considering studying a cert 3 in fitness, you might be wondering what you’re going to learn. Since this is an introductory certificate, it covers a wide range of skills. From providing health screens, instructing fitness programs and more.
As a fitness professional, it’ll be your job to take what you learn from this cert 3 in fitness and put it into action.
So without further ado, here is a list of 5 skill a cert 3 in fitness will teach you.
When studying a cert 3 in fitness, one of the first things you will learn is how to introduce people to the gym. When working in a gym it’s common to have complete newbies starting their fitness journey.
As a cert 3 in fitness graduate, it’s your job to take these people and run them through the basics of fitness. From basic exercises, names of machines to super simple stuff like rules of the gym.
You could also have people who have some experience already. But, don’t assume that they don’t need help. After all, they didn’t study a cert 3 in fitness as you did.
Another key part of the fitness orientation is a health screening. Typically you will sit down with your client and go through a list of questions about their health. By finding out about your client’s health, you’ll be better prepared to help them be successful.
Most questions in the health screen cover topics such as underlying diseases, injuries and smoking habits. Make sure it’s okay with the client before you ask these questions as some people might find them too personal. Keeping this in mind will help you succeed after you’re a cert 3 fitness graduate.
Being adaptable is an important part of being a fitness professional. After you complete your cert 3 in fitness you’ll come across many different clients. They could be old, young, male, female, healthy, unhealthy or many other things.
Besides physical differences, many clients have different goals as well. Client goals can be things like losing weight, gaining muscle or being able to run 5 kilometres. It’s your job to take that into consideration when giving advice.
As a cert 3 fitness student, you’ll learn to set clients expectations correctly. Even though someone’s goal may be to gain muscle, it may be best to start off with losing weight first. As a cert 3 fitness student, you will learn the best way forward for them.
When people think of studying a cert 3 in fitness, this is always the first skill that comes to mind. And, for good reason, it is a key part of the job. Being able to instruct your clients, by showing them or telling them, is the key to their success.
After you study a cert 3 in fitness, you will find work as a Gym Instructor or Group Exercise Instructor. As a gym instructor, you will be teaching clients how to complete exercises correctly. This is more of an individual or small group training.
Your other option is to be a Group Trainer. This means taking a group of people through an exercise routine. Most gyms have a range of classes including circuit training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Some even have yoga classes, but you would need a separate qualification on top of your cert 3 in fitness.
Most of the time you can pick your favourite classes and teach those. But if you’re new, it’s best to teach as many classes as possible so you become a better instructor. When studying your cert 3 in fitness, try going to a few classes at your local gym. This way you can see exactly what previous cert 3 fitness graduates are doing.
The key to instructing fitness programs is making sure your client feels comfortable. This is important for people who are new to the gym. People aren’t always able to get exercises right the first time around. It’s your job to let them know that it’s okay and that you’re here to support them.
When it comes to training the body, anatomy and physiology must always be taken into account. As a cert 3 fitness student, you will learn about the different muscles of the body and how they work.
This becomes important when designing work out routines or dealing with existing injuries. For example, when creating a workout routine, muscles need to rest before being trained again. If someone were to train the same muscle every day, it wouldn’t be able to recover. To top it off, they might even get injured!
Being a cert 3 fitness student will teach you how to create balanced programs. This means that all muscles should be trained in the correct proportions. Here’s an example with weight training. If you have a client training their chest more than their back, their shoulders will begin to round forward. This isn’t great for posture and could cause issues in the future.
On the flip side, if clients have existing imbalances it’s your job to fix them with the right programming. Trust me, they’ll thank you for it.
As a cert 3 fitness student, you’ll learn all about basic healthy eating. You’ll have an overview of what food to eat and what to avoid. As well as how to eat for certain goals. There’s a big difference between eating to build muscle and eating to lose weight.
Be careful though, a cert 3 in fitness doesn’t qualify you to give tailored advice to your clients. You will need to study extra certificates on top of your cert 3 in fitness if you want to do that. If a client wants specific information, it is best to send them to someone qualified in nutrition.
Another option is to give clients different online resources. They can do some research and make educated decisions for themselves.
